Accreditation formally recognizes competent CABs, giving customers a reliable way to find Testing (including Medical), Calibration, Proficiency Testing, Reference Material Producer and Biobank. It enhances customer confidence in test/calibration reports and helps society identify technically competent laboratories in fields like Medical, Forensic and Food Testing. Globalization and trade liberalization make it imperative for accredited laboratories to operate at an internationally acceptable level of competence.

NABL accreditation gives a third-party attestation to the technical competence of the testing (including medical) and calibration laboratories, proficiency testing providers, reference material producers and Biobanks.

NABL is an MRA signatory to APAC and Global ACI. The MRA reduces technical barrier to trade by facilitating the international acceptance of the results generated by its accredited CABs.

While verifying the accreditation certificate, check the following:

• Specific Test /Calibration Parameter: Ensure the required test parameter or calibration is included within the accredited scope.
• Test/ Calibration Method: Verify the test method/standard used for performing the test/ calibration in the accredited scope is the one claimed in the report too.
• Location: Confirm the address of the CAB where the conformity assessment activity (test/calibration etc.) is performed.
• Certificate Validity: Check whether the accreditation certificate was valid for the said conformity assessment activity (test/ calibration parameter) on the concerned date.
• CMC for Calibration: For calibration laboratories, verify the applicable Calibration and Measurement Capability (CMC) Proficiency Testing Providers: Check the PT scheme and the respective test/ calibration parameter and the test/calibration method.
